Azly aims for giant leap at SEA Games
MOHD AZLY GHAZALI is hoping to do well at the SEA Games in Myanmar in December. His performance so far suggests that he is on the right track to meet his target. The 18-year-old did a personal best of 2.15m at Sukma in July last year when he represented Selangor.
“It is my best jump to date but I will have to do better to have any chance of doing well in the SEA Games, especially when I will be competing with seasoned campaigners like Lee Hup Wei.
The former Bukit Jalil Sports School student added that his coach Alim Ahmejanov doesn’t want him to push too hard in trying to better his personal best.
‘He (Ahmejanov) always tells me not to push myself too hard but instead focus on improving my jump slowly so that I don’t risk injuring myself as there is still a long way to go before the SEA Games,” Azly said.
Azly will also be taking part in the Asian School Games in June which will be his last big tournament before the SEA Games.
He is currently waiting for his SPM results and plans to further his studies in Bukit Jalil Sports School.
Ahmejanov ,who has been in charge of the high jump athletes in Bukit Jalil since 2003, feels that all his high jump athletes are good and a gold medal is a realistic target for the SEA Games.
