TAN WEI HENG hopes to take part in SEA Games in Myanmar this December, but has yet to beat qualifying time of 1:50:06 seconds.

Wei Heng’s coach, S.Indran said the former has been showing good progress.

The Kedah born runner made the headlines two years ago for becoming the first Kedah schoolboy to run the 800m in just under two minutes at the 52nd Kedah Combined Schools Track and Field Championships.
He clocked 1:57.99s to erase the record of 2:01.30s by P. Yuvaraj in Langkawi in 2007. Wei Heng also smashed the 13-year-old 1,500m championship record with a time of 4:12.08s.
His effort sliced off more than a second off the V. Thiruvatiran’s 1998 ecord of 4:13.80s.

Wei Heng is doing his Pre-U studies in Bukit Jalil Sports School and will continue his studies in the course of education at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The 19-year-old will compete at the Asian Track and Field Championship in Chennai in June. He will compete in the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase events.

“The tournament will give me a rough idea of where I stand and hopefully I will be good enough to break the SEA Games qualifying time,” said Wei Heng.
