Amirul Mukmin Mohd Yusmiza won gold in the re-run of the Under-18 100m yesterday. |
This time, Amirul made no mistake as he burst out of the blocks and led practically all the way before holding his arms out and crossing the line victorious.
As the race was held in the rain, it resulted in a slow winning time of 11.03 seconds and some way off Amirul's personal best of 10.72.
Hakim, who clocked 10.92 on Wednesday, was relegated to the bronze medal this time in 11.25 seconds with Perak's Amir Syahmi Kamaruddin taking silver in 11.23.
"In the first race, I had a slow start and I was determined it would not happen again. I timed my race perfectly, got the start I wanted and I was able to lead all the way to the finish.
"I won it last year (in Ipoh) and I really wanted to win again. I was disappointed when I lost the first race but I'm thankful for this second chance," said Amirul, 17, originally from Bandar Muazzam Shah but now studying at the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School in Bandar Penawar.
Amirul will now be attempting a sprint double when he lines up for today's 200m final.
"Two finals in two days will be hectic but I'm confident of doing it. Winning the double is now my goal," said Amirul.
