PALEMBANG: A downpour yesterday forced the shot putt event to be delayed until this morning.
Malaysia’s Adi Aliffudin, silver medallist in Laos two years ago, will have an extra day’s rest before taking a shot at the gold at 10am.
It was quite a disappointing day for the Malaysian athletics team as none of them managed to add to hammer thrower Tan Song Hwa’s gold medal.
Melinder Kaur, who has the second best time in the region this year, was dismal in the rain as she trailed in fourth in the 3000m steeplechase.
Her male counterparts - Ahmad Luth Hamizan and J. Karthik - fared even worse, coming in eighth and 11th respectively.
In the sprints, Noor Imran Hadi and Ambrose Jilon both failed to make the grade, finishing sixth and eighth respectively, while Nurul Sarah Abdul Kadir and Norjannah Hafiszah also flopped.
Indonesia’s Burumi Franklin Ramses won the men’s century sprint with a 10.37 finish, while compatriot Unani Serifi Analis made it a grand double for the hosts with a victory in 11.69 in the women’s 100m.
